Learn More about Pirin National Park

The Pirin National Park, with its 274 km2 of surface area, displays an impressive natural splendour. It is located in the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria.

Here you will be captivated by the limestone mountain landscape. More than 70 varied glacial lakes, waterfalls, caves and rocks add to the beauty of the place.
You have the option of hiking alone or with a guide.

During the trek, enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the forty peaks of the site that rise to an altitude of 2000 m and above. Do as most travellers do and make the highest Vihren Peak their priority.
Other smaller mountains exist for the less able to enjoy. It seems the park has thought of every type of hiker!
Don't miss the opportunity to get closer to the water reservoirs, especially the Kremenski Lakes, which are the most beautiful.

In this environment, you will observe more than 1300 types of plants. Some of them are endemic, endangered species or glacial relics. If you are lucky, you will see the edelweiss which is rare in the area.
You will also be delighted to see Baykusheva mura, the oldest tree in Bulgaria. It is over 1300 years old.
In the forests of white and black pines and spruces, you will have the opportunity to observe some animals. There are about 45 species of mammals, some of which will jump out at you like wolf, chamois, bear, fox, etc.

There are three nature reserves in the area. Bayuvi dupki-Dzhindzhiritsa, one of the oldest in the country, covers an area of 2873 ha. It includes several glacial cirques, peaks and the Byala reka valley.
The flora and fauna are also perfectly illustrated. The symbol of the area is the chamois.
The Yulen Nature Reserve is a place of many lakes, alpine ecosystems and rare, endemic plant and animal species. Don't miss the Tissata reserve either.
